James W. Reid, Partner
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, James W. Reid has practiced in the area of Trusts and Estates for 40 years. Jim obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia (B.A.Economics) and his law degree from the University of Georgia, he began his career at the Manhattan law firm of Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller, where he became a partner, ultimately co-headed the Trusts and Estates practice group, and wrote and edited the firm’s periodic Report to Clients for ten years. Jim moved the practice which he shared with Carolyn Glynn to the law firm of Satterlee, Stephens, Burke, & Burke in 2005 before establishing Reid Glynn, LLP with Carolyn in 2011. Jim has many long-standing professional relationships with private clients and their families living in the U.S. and abroad. He is a hands-on advisor who makes the concerns of his clients his top priority. He delivers professionalism with seasoned expertise, integrity, balance, thoughtfulness and value. Jim’s practice emphasizes estate and tax planning, and the representation of individual and corporate Executors and Trustees in all aspects of the administration of estates and trusts, including estate, gift and fiduciary income tax issues, disclaimer options, fiduciary accounting matters, Unitrust and power to adjust elections, cross-border implications, tax treaty issues, decanting to revise existing trusts, change of situs and fiduciary elections and considerations.
Jim is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Estate Planning Council of New York and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He writes and lectures on a variety of estate and tax issues, and is a speaker on various estate planning panels. Jim Reid lives in Riverside, Connecticut with his wife, Jan. His sons, Will and Alex are married and living in New York City.
Carolyn M. Glynn, Partner
Born in New Rochelle, New York, Carolyn Glynn is admitted to practice law in New York and Connecticut. Having obtained her B.A. in British Literature from Vassar College in 1988 and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1991, her 20-year legal career has focused on the areas of Trusts and Estates and tax law for higher net worth clients residing in those states. Carolyn advises individual private clients and owners of closely-held businesses in a wide range of wealth transfer matters, including estate planning, estate and trust administration, probate court proceedings, estate litigation and business succession. Additionally, she provides tax advice in areas such as intergenerational transfer tax planning, fiduciary income tax planning, entity formation, charitable giving arrangements, private foundations, estate and tax planning for foreign individuals and trusts, and distribution planning for IRAs and qualified plans. She also advises clients regarding pre- and post-nuptial agreements and the tax and property issues relevant to divorces and separations. Clients recognize and admire Carolyn’s ready wit, warmth, personal insight, easy technical expertise and the expansiveness of her legal background, complemented by the positive “can-do” approach she brings to every professional relationship and project. Carolyn worked at U.S. Trust of New York before being hired by Jim Reid as an associate in the Manhattan law firm of Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller, where she was made partner in October 1999. She moved her joint practice with Jim to Satterlee, Stephens, Burke & Burke, LLP, before establishing Reid Glynn in 2011.
Carolyn has served for many years as a member of various committees of the New York State Bar Association (including the Legislation Committee and the Surrogate’s Court Practice Committee). She has been a frequent lecturer for the Practicing Law Institute of New York (PLI) and graduate business schools, and has co-authored various trusts and estates articles for PLI as well as her prior law firms. An avid tennis player and swimmer, she currently resides in New York City with her husband, Lee, and her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Caitlyn.
Lesya Osipova, Chief Operating Officer
Born in Vinnitsa, Ukraine, Ms. Lesya Osipova came to the U.S.in 2001 with a degree in world literature and English from the Uman University. Having lived in the States for only two years, Lesya became a top-notch legal secretary in a small law firm before joining Jim Reid and Carolyn Glynn at the mid-size Manhattan law firm in which they practiced prior to establishing Reid Glynn, LLP. Lesya’s sparkling personality, keen intellect, charm, excellent work ethic and organizational skills propelled her to the position of office manager and chief operating officer of Reid Glynn. She effectively oversees all administrative aspects of Reid Glynn and, in particular, does a superb job of interacting with all individual clients worldwide. Lesya, a key element to the success of Reid Glynn, currently lives in Middletown, New York, with her husband and son, Daniel. She is fluent in Russian and is an avid reader of mystery and suspense, and masters all computer systems required by Reid Glynn, LLP.
Lisa B. Sherr, Fiduciary Accountant
Born in Manhasset, New York, Lisa B. Sherr has worked with Jim Reid and Carolyn Glynn on numerous client projects during much of her professional career. As the primary resource of Reid Glynn, she is exceptionally talented and efficient fiduciary accountant for complex estates, trusts and private foundations at the highest level. Having graduated summa cum laude from New York University’s Stern School of Business (B.S. Accounting), where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Lisa has taken classes towards both law and business degrees. Lisa is highly respected for her professionalism, intelligence, thoughtfulness, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Aside from working for Reid Glynn, she has been employed as a fiduciary accountant to handle large and complex accountings and related matters for many of the major New York banks and trust companies. She currently lives in Roslyn, New York with her husband, Andrew, and two sons, Sam and Matt.
